who's the author?
hi! my name's beckett (24, he/him). i'm a for-fun digital artist, writer, and ttrpg player on the weekends! when i'm not drawing panels for prolegomenon, i'm usually blogging on tumblr or playing video games. i like to draw simplistic backgrounds and funny jokes! most of my art style started off copying the adventure time style and then morphing it from there, and most of my writing in prolegomenon is inspired by my own life and the lives of people i've known/i know. with that in mind, my perspective of life is limited, and if i fumble on something important, you're more than welcome to contact me!
do you make other stuff, too?
yes! i've made a great variety of things - text adventures, visual novels, written stories, ARGs, etc. you can find a whole list of them right here, along with their mediums and production statuses, right here! prolegomenon is actually a small piece to a very large puzzle involving multiple other projects. if you're looking for news regarding prolegomenon, and all things beckett really, i recommend monitoring this space.
i found a technical error (typos, bugs, dead links...) while reading. where do i report it?

what program(s) do you use to make prolegomenon?
artrage is always my digital art program of choice. i don't use a drawing tablet, either... everything you see drawn here was by finger on touchscreen! i understand it's kind of joker-esque of me but it's what i self-trained myself on! i've tried other art programs in the past, though i'm not nearly as familiar with any other program aside from artrage. for music, i consult my lovely friend cecily parsley, who you can find on spotify and bandcamp under the same name.
what are some touchstones/inspirations for prolegomenon?
there's a lot of medias i've consumed over the years that influence the way i work on prolegomenon. the biggest touchstones you can probably identify are animal crossing (scenery + villagers, crafting system), homestuck (formatting and presentation), and jumanji (pretty much everything else). some more minor inspirations are soma (for the mimeo's situation), counterweight (for the mimeo, in general), fallout: new vegas (a lot of the writing and choice trees), read only memories 2064 (a lot with albus and olivia)... the list goes on. none of these are required reading to understand or enjoy prolegomenon to its fullest, though.
how long have you been doing prolegomenon?
prolegomenon first went live on december 5, 2020. i've been working on it much longer than that, though - it'd be disingenuous if i didn't admit that the veeeeery original approach to this project was a homestuck fancomic. i've been playing with this project since 2015, though the point where i opted to stop handling it like a fancomic and approach it from a different and much more organically generated angle is around 2018. that's when prolegomenon as you know and love it was born! the two years between the decision and publishing this comic were spent analyzing other stuff i like, taking that, and incorporating it in my own weird way. i'd like to imagine prolegomenon is original enough to stand on its own legs - especially with, ahem... everything else... that comes after. with that said, if it's so close to homestuck that fans of that comic engage with prolegomenon, realize homestuck is trash (unironic), and stop engaging with homestuck, i'm counting that as a win in my book!
can i make fanworks of prolegomenon?
as long as it's respectful - like, no whitewashing, for example. i'd also like to ask that you avoid creating nsfw/suggestive content of these characters, though i can't stop you. if you make something, feel free to ping me about it on whatever social medias, and i'll share it. you can also join the official discord server and send it - i'm usually online in there. i always like to see art of my little guys, and it makes me happy to know people care enough to draw them too!
prolegomenon's on hiatus for the billionth time. where can i go for more prolegomenon content in the meantime?
i recommend going through this tag on my project blog on tumblr, prodding at my personal tumblr for shitposting content, and joining the official discord server. we're working on some other stuff in the future too, but for right now, these are the three best ways for a little extra stuff while you wait for an update. warning - i'm not nearly as charming or cool once you follow my personal social medias.
